The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 4 p.m. for portions of east-central Minnesota, including the Twin Cities metro area.
Counties in the watch include: Aitkin, Anoka, Benton, Carlton, Carver, Chisago, Crow Wing, Dakota Hennepin, Isanti, Kanabec, McLeod, Mille Lacs, Pine, Ramsey, Scott, Sherburne, Washington and Wright.
The weather service says tornadoes, hail the size of limes and scattered damaging winds up to 90 mph are possible within the watch.
"A small but maturing MCS should evolve into an eastward-moving bow across east-central Minnesota into northwest Wisconsin this afternoon. Significant damaging winds, large hail, and brief tornadoes are the expected hazards," the Storm Prediction Center says.
As of 10:40 a.m., severe storms were moving east on a line from Alexandria to Benson. The development and possible intensification of this line is the focal point of the watch.
