Winter system to bring up to 4 inches of snow to Minnesota this weekend
A clipper system is set to bring several inches of snow to Minnesota at the weekend.
The latest forecast from the National Weather Service is showing potential snow ranging from trace amounts in the southwest of the state to up to 6 inches in the Grand Marais area of the North Shore.
The current projections for the Twin Cities suggests 1 to 3 inches of snow may fall when the system lands Saturday evening into Sunday morning.
Per the NWS forecast discussion, the clipper will arrive in Minnesota from North Dakota Saturday evening, bringing light snow that will continue – getting steadier in places – through late Sunday morning, before colder and drier air arrives in the afternoon.
The current prediction is for "1 to 3 inches area wide," though areas to the north of Interstate 94 could see more, with areas of northern and northwestern Minnesota including Bemidji possibly seeing up to 4 inches.
It will be followed by a "blast of colder air" early next week that will send temperatures plunging, with highs in the single digits and lows potentially in the teens below zero through Tuesday.
A warm-up will then follow, with temps reaching the 30s by Thursday.
