1 person died in Minneapolis house fire

The victim was found on the second floor.

A person who was found on the second floor of a burning home has died.

The Minneapolis Fire Department reported a fire at a home on the 4100 block of Beard Avenue South in the Linden Hills neighborhood Friday afternoon, noting a victim had been located on the second floor.

In a later tweet, the fire department confirmed the victim died.

By 4 p.m., crews had the majority of the fire knocked down and were working on extinguishing hot spots, the department tweeted.

There's no word on who the victim was or the cause of the fire.

Fire deaths in Minnesota

Friday's victim becomes the 18th person to die in a fire in Minnesota so far this year.

Thirty-six people died in fires in Minnesota in 2016, figures from the state Department of Public Safety show.

Careless smoking was to blame in seven of the fire deaths last year, while combustibles being too close to heat led to four fire deaths. Arson or suicide was to blame in another four of last year's fire fatalities.
