A construction worker was killed and another injured in a construction accident involving a forklift on the Bong Bridge Monday morning.

The incident happened just after 7 a.m. at the Wisconsin Department of Transportation-run construction project, Northland's NewsCenter reports.

It occurred on the Superior-bound lanes, the Duluth News Tribune says, which have been closed to traffic as crews continue working on the span of the bridge.

"We offer our sincerest condolences to the workers friends, family and coworkers. Our top priority is keeping construction projects safe for workers the community and traveling public. We will work with other agencies to review safety procedures and make sure all safety guidelines are followed," a WisDOT statement says, according to Northland's NewsCenter.

The workers were employed by Lunda Construction, based in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, reports say.

The St. Louis County Medical Examiner will release the identity and cause of death of the worker, FOX 21 says.
