A person on the sidewalk was killed in a hit-and-run in the northern Twin Cities metro late Thursday.

The Blaine Police Department said officers got the scene at on the 2200 block of 119th Ave. NE. just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

The victim, a 39-year-old man, was lying in the road with passersby performing CPR. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver left the scene – but police have arrested a 27-year-old suspect.

Police say it appears he'd been driving recklessly in the area, struck a car, then hit the victim. They think alcohol was a factor.

There have been more than 100 traffic-related fatalities on Minnesota roads this year, including at least 13 pedestrians deaths including Thursday night's incident, according to the Minnesota Toward Zero Deaths initiative website.

Multiple comments on the city's Facebook update said drivers frequently speed through that neighborhood.
