1 person killed, several injured as buses crash in Duluth

One person died and several were injured after two buses crashed in Duluth early Tuesday morning.

The Duluth Police Department told Northland's News Center a man was killed in the incident at 5 a.m. on the 400 block of West Superior Street when two Duluth Transit Authority buses collided.

It is not clear at this moment if the man was a passenger or pedestrian.

The TV station also reports a bus driver and between six and 15 passengers were taken to the hospital for evaluation after the incident.

The Duluth News Tribune reports the buses were traveling in opposite directions when they crashed, and that the eastbound bus is believed to have crossed the center lane after first colliding with a stop sign and signal lights at the intersection with 5th Avenue West.

"I looked up, and here comes a bus flooring it, right into us," Kathy Burgess, a passenger on the westbound bus, told the newspaper. "If it would have impacted a couple inches over, my window would have been hit."
