10 fire departments called to fire at million-dollar home

The cause of an early morning fire in a million-dollar Eden Prairie home remains under investigation.

KARE 11 reports Eden Prairie firefighters were called to the scene around midnight. By the time firefighters arrived, flames were leaping into the sky and could be seen for miles. FOX 9 notes the Eden Prairie department was assisted by at least nine neighboring fire departments in battling the blaze. Despite the additional manpower, the home could not be saved.

Two people who were inside the 8,500-square-foot home escaped unharmed. No other injuries were reported.

The owner called for help after spotting a fire in the home's garage. Eden Prairie Fire Chief George Esbensen told KARE he believes the blaze was accelerated by gasoline inside vehicles that were parked in the garage. The house was not equipped with a residential fire sprinkler system.

The fire took the roof of the home. With firefighters pouring about 5,000 gallons of water per minute, the home also has extensive smoke and water damage.

WCCO reports the home is located near Olympic Hills Golf Course in Eden Prairie.
