Spirit Airlines is already expanding its service out of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Starting in April 2013, Spirit will add non-stop flights to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The Florida-based airline will also offer seasonal non-stop service to Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers between Nov. 8 through April 24, 2013. Spirit debuted in the Twin Cities market less than two months ago with daily flights to Chicago and Las Vegas.

Twitter is abuzz with news that Spirit Airlines is joining the Twin Cities airport. The carrier calls itself an ultra-low-cost option, but writers at the Washington Post and USA Today warn travelers to watch out for hefty fees.

The airline replaces Delta, which stopped service at several northern Minnesota airports. SkyWest offers flights to the Twin Cities twice daily. Allegiant Airlines is reportedly considering to offer flights this fall to Las Vegas.

The airline has waived its customary fee for rescheduling travelers who had planned to fly on Tuesday or Wednesday. Passengers can re-book for free, as long as they fly by Monday.

Airport officials say they will reveal the name Wednesday of a new airline locating at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The Minneapolis Airports Commission says the airline flies internationally but will fly only to domestic airports from Minneapolis.
