Aside from the simple matter of celebrating Independence Day, for many people, July 4th will also be remembered as the day they became Americans.

Angela Davis from WCCO-TV draws a portrait of a group of 30 men and women, from some 20 nations, who became U.S. citizens Thursday morning after months of studying and taking the oath. Davis reports the group stood together at Golden Valley City Hall the third event in the last week for the Naturalization process.

At least 120 people in the Twin Cities metro became citizens Thursday, according to WCCO.

The judge who presided over the ceremony, the station reports, told the new citizens, “By your achievements today you have earned the rights and liberties that go with being an American citizen, but along with those rights and liberties, come important obligations as well.”

“Everyone would love to be an American citizen,” one tells the station. “It is the No. 1 top country in the whole world. We love the country and we are all happy to be here.”
