Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen says the incident happened around 4:19 p.m. in Leigh Township, west of Hillman, according to a news release.

Damian Hebler, of Hillman, was riding a Kawasaki dirt bike on westbound 173rd Street when he hit the back of an International tractor that was traveling in the same direction.

Damian was pronounced dead at the scene.

In an email news release Monday, officials said there was a helmet located near Damian's body, and they believe he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Officials continue to investigate whether the helmet fell off as a result of the accident, noting they'll know more following an autopsy.

The 23-year-old driver of the tractor was not injured.

This is believed to be the first off-highway motorcycle death in Minnesota this year, according to the state Department of Natural Resources. There was one off-highway motorcycle death in the state last year.
