Best Buy pulls plug on Geek Squad test with Target

Best Buy Co. will no longer have Geek Squad agents staffing select Target stores, according to the Star Tribune. The Richfield-based consumer electronics says it is ending its experiment with the Minneapolis company.

The Business Journal notes the move comes about a month after the two retailers expanded their partnership to 20 stores in Missouri.

The companies began a six-month pilot project last fall to have Geek Squad agents at more than two-dozen Target stores -- mostly in the Denver metro. The trained technicians offered in-store gadget repairs to home-theater delivery and installation.

“At Target, we continually test new concepts with the goal of providing our guests with a convenient, value-driven experience,” the company said in a statement to the newspaper. “Following our recent in-store test of Geek Squad services in select locations, the partnership is concluding.”

Last month, George Sherman, the top executive who oversaw Geek Squad, left the consumer electronics chain after nearly four years on the job.
