Best Buy taps Amy Poehler for 2013 Super Bowl spot


Best Buy Co. Inc. announced on Wednesday that actress and comedian Amy Poehler will star in its Super Bowl XLVII commercial on Feb. 3, the Associated Press reports. The multimillion dollar 30-second spot will air during the first quarter of the game on CBS.

The Richfield-based electronics chain confirmed plans to advertise during the Super Bowl earlier this week, but didn't reveal any specific details. The plot remains a secret, but the AP says there will be some sort of a social media component. A second spot will also air after the game.

Poehler, the star of Parks and Recreation on NBC, recently co-hosted the Golden Globes with Tina Fey earlier this month.

"Amy Poehler's Golden Globe performance left us all wanting to see more of her," Scott Durchslag, senior vice president of digital and marketing for Best Buy and president of and eCommerce, told Advertising Age. "We are thrilled to feature her in our commercial this year and bring the public another dose of her unparalleled humor. We know people have high expectations for these ads, and Amy delivers a whole new dimension of entertainment."

This will be Best Buy's third consecutive Super Bowl spot. The retailer's 2011 ad starred Ozzy Osbourne and Justin Bieber. Last year's commercial featured Instagram founder Kevin Systrom and camera phone creator Philippe Kahn.
