A Metropolitan Council committee is expected to decide on Monday whether to recommend a $500,000 grant to clean up an industrial site in southeast Minneapolis, MPR reports. The Surly Brewing Co. is eying the 8.3-acre piece of property to build a $20 million brewery, bar, event center and beer garden.
The Brooklyn Center-based brewery is seeking a total of $2.5 million to cleanup the Minneapolis location near the future Central Corridor light rail line and the University of Minnesota.
Last year, Gov. Mark Dayton signed a bill, that Surly successfully helped lobby, to legalize so-called brewery taprooms.
