State trooper hospitalized after south metro crash

A Minnesota State Trooper was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in downtown Minneapolis with non-life-threatening injuries after a vehicle hit two squad cars Saturday night, the Pioneer Press reports. The first patrol vehicle was sideswiped and the second was rear-ended.

Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske told the Star Tribune that alcohol was believed to be a factor and the 39-year-old driver of the vehicle was arrested.

The crash happened in the southern Twin Cities metro on the exit ramp from westbound Interstate 494 to northbound Interstate 35W.

WCCO says a passenger in the suspect's vehicle was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries. An 11-year-old in the car and the other trooper were not hurt.
