2 breweries compete to see who made the best rhubarb, elderflower and honey beer

Both craft breweries had to make a beer with these three random ingredients, picked by beer drinkers.

Two St. Paul breweries are going head-to-head to see who made the best beer using ingredients picked by beer drinkers.

Tin Whiskers and Urban Growler each had to make a beer using rhubarb and honey (which were voted on via social media), as well as elderflower – the wildcard ingredient picked by The Happy Gnome staff.

And on Wednesday people can go to The Happy Gnome in St. Paul from 5-8 p.m. for a blind, side-by-side taste test of the beers. Then you can vote for your favorite.

“We are really looking forward to this," Tin Whiskers founder Jeff Moriarty said in a statement. “Urban Growler have always been valued friends and neighbors to us, and having the opportunity to put on another event with them will be a blast, and we think patrons will be able to feel that. Plus, allowing The Happy Gnome to chose the ‘wildcard’ ingredient is going to add another fun element to the process.”

This is the second time the two breweries have faced off. In 2015, the breweries had to make a beer using mango, coconut and ginger – it ended it a tie.
