2 people hospitalized, 2 firefighters evaluated after Minneapolis blaze

Two people are hospitalized and two firefighters are being evaluated after a fire started at a Minneapolis home early Tuesday morning.

When the fire department arrived to the home on the 2700 block of 18th Avenue South before 4 a.m., the front porch and first floor of the home were fully engulfed in flames, the Minneapolis Fire Department tweeted.

The fire quickly spread to the second floor and the attic, fire officials tweeted, prompting the department to call a second alarm.

Firefighters searched the home and found one victim – a man – on the second floor, WCCO reports. He was unconscious and had suffered some burns, the fire department says. He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center by ambulance.

A second male apparently jumped from the second floor to escape the fire, WCCO adds. He was also taken to the hospital to be evaluated, KSTP says.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital after being injured during the rescue, while the other was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion, KSTP notes.

The conditions of the victims and the firefighter have not been released, the fire department notes.

Two children also live at the home, but were not there at the time of the fire, the Minneapolis Fire Department tweeted. The American Red Cross has been contacted to help the victims.

The fire remains under investigation.
