2,200 Minnesota combat vets have not filed for expiring tax credit

Author:

There are still 2,200 combat veterans in Minnesota who have not filed for a refundable tax credit that is about to expire, the Associated Press reports.

Veterans who served in a combat zone or "qualified hazardous duty area" in 2009 have until Oct. 15 to fill out a form to claim the expiring credit, which amounts to $120 for each month served, the Minnesota Department of Revenue notes. Tax credits are also available for 2010 through 2012, but it's the 2009 credit that is about to expire.

Members of the military and their families may qualify for a number of tax breaks, the department says.
