3 hospitalized in Nisswa church collapse

A church under construction north of Brainerd collapsed Friday morning, trapping several workers inside.

KARE 11 reports around 7 a.m., crews were setting trusses on a new addition of Timberwood Church in Nisswa when the structure gave way, according to the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office.

Eight to 10 employees were on the scene when about a dozen trusses collapsed, the Brainerd Dispatch reported.

Three workers were sent to a hospital in Brainerd.

The newspaper said victims, employees of Nor-Son Inc., were "walking, talking, alert and conscious" before being transported.

According to the church's website, construction on a 21,000 square-foot addition began on July 1 and is expected to be complete next spring.
