3 injured when teen driver rear-ends school bus in Sherburne Co.


Police are investigating a crash in which a teen driver in a car hit a school bus from behind in Sherburne County Thursday, KARE 11 reports. Three were injured.

The accident occurred at 2:30 p.m. in Big Lake Township, roughly 40 miles northwest of the Twin Cities.

The bus was carrying 30 passengers and had stopped to unload when the teenager's vehicle struck the bus, went into a ditch and hit a tree. That driver was airlifted to a hospital for treatment, but his condition was not released.

The 45-year-old bus driver and a student on the bus were taken to a hospital in Monticello for treatment of minor injuries.

Investigators are reconstructing the crash scene. Charges have not yet been filed. The exact cause of the accident has not been determined, the Princeton Union-Eagle reported.

Five children were injured after an SUV rear-ended a school bus in Rushford, Minn, about 20 miles south of Winona. The school bus with about 25 children on board was dropping off students on Highway 43 around 4 p.m. Friday. The SUV, driven by 53-year-old Brian Moore of Winona, crashed into the back of the bus.
