3-year-old badly burned in play with matches, lighter fluid

Author:

A 3-year-old Millville, Minn., boy is in critical condition after he was burned on more than 50 percent of his body, the Rochester Post Bulletin reported.

Investigators said the boy and his three siblings, ages 3 to 9, had been playing with lighter fluid and matches at about 1:15 p.m. Monday, the newspaper reported.

The other children told police that they had put lighter fluid in a lunch box and lit it, and as they tried to put out the fire, they had spilled burning fluid on the boy, the Post Bulletin reported.

The boy's mother and grandmother were soaking the boy in a bathtub when paramedics arrived, the newspaper reported. The boy was taken by helicopter to Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
