Authorities are looking for the person responsible for shooting a reindeer on a McLeod County farm last month.

KARE 11 reports Claus, the Kendall family's prized reindeer, was shot to death in his pen near Glencoe.

Reindeer farmer Bob Kendall said Claus would be the first one to greet you at the gate, but on Aug. 25, Claus wasn't sitting in his usual place, WCCO reported. Kendall said he walked down the hill to check on the reindeer and found him dead.

Not only was Claus the most kind and gentle of the herd, the 5-year-old reindeer was worth thousands of dollars and was the male breeder on the farm.

Claus was also part of an annual Christmas display.

"I don't know anybody that hated the reindeer," Kendall told KARE 11.

Anyone with information is asked to call the McLeod County Sheriff's Department at 320-864-3134.

The family is offering a $3,000 reward for tips that lead to an arrest in the case.
