Police in St. Paul are investigating a shooting Sunday morning that left one woman dead and another injured.

St. Paul Police Department was called to the shooting in an alley on the 700 block of Sims Avenue at 7:30 a.m., after receiving a report of shots fired, according to a news release.

There they found two women suffering from injuries, one of whom – who had a gunshot wound – was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other woman’s injuries, and the cause of them, have not been confirmed at this stage, but she was taken to Regions Hospital for treatment.

After questioning witnesses, police have issued an appeal for information from anyone who may know about the shooting.

The identity of the dead woman will be released at a later stage by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.

As of Friday, there have been 13 homicides in St. Paul this year, according to the Pioneer Press, and this number would rise to 14 if Sunday’s incident is confirmed as a homicide.

St. Paul PD crime statistics show there were 16 homicides in total in the city all of last year, which was the highest in the past five years.
