34-year Kmart shopper protests store closing

Marge Hames, 74, says she's been coming back to the same local Kmart for 34 years and says the employees there are like family. That store is one of 15 that Sears Holding plans to close in February. "So I'm here. I'll be here tomorrow, and the day after, until it closes."

Marge Hames, 74, says she's been coming back to the same local Kmart for 34 years. Now that store is among 15 that Sears Holding plans to close in February. "I don't like that the ownership doesn't care what the store means to a town," Hames told the New Ulm Journal.

"So I'm here. I'll be here tomorrow, and the day after, until it closes."

Sears has confirmed that it will close its Kmart Distribution Center in Shakopee at the beginning of 2013. A company spokeswoman said that the 130 workers affected by the shut down were informed last week that they were losing their jobs. Some of the workers have reportedly been with the distribution center since it opened in 1981.
