A woman and her three grandchildren, two boys and a girl, were shot and killed Sunday in New Town, in northwestern North Dakota, the Minot Daily News reported. A man died in nearby Parshall on Sunday and investigators are checking into whether his death was related to the deaths of the other four, the newspaper reports. He was from New Town.

The sheriff's office in Stanley got a call about the deaths in New Town at about 3 p.m., and the man's death in Parshall was at about 8:30 p.m., the newspaper reports.

New Town School Superintendent Marc Bluestone called off classes Monday because of "the tragedy in our community," the Associated Press reported.

New Town is on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation and is the headquarters for the Three Affiliated Tribes, the AP says.
