A man is dead after his snowmobile collided with a train near Dassel, according to KARE11.

The Meeker County Sheriff's Office says the accident happened just before 7 p.m. Saturday. Investigators say 31-year-old Paul Fenske of Silver Lake was riding along the railroad tracks when he lost control of his snowmobile, slid into the train and was dragged down the tracks. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

WCCO reports the crash happened several rail cars back from the locomotives on the train, so the crew operating the train was unaware of what had happened and continued traveling.

A second snowmobiler, an acquaintance of Fenske who was riding with him, was not injured.
