5 must-hear Christmas rap projects for 2016

Chance the Rapper and Jeremih just surprised us with holiday cheer, as did some other MCs.

'Tis the season for Christmas music! And that includes hip-hop.

This year saw fierce debates over "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and whether or not Die Hard is a Christmas movie (I mean, his wife's name is HOLLY!) the 2016 holidays has become one with a bevy of surprise hip-hop Christmas releases. We've got five of the best of them all here in one place so you can make merry from the comfort of a single click.

Jeremih & Chance the Rapper - Merry Christmas, Lil Mama
Christmas is poppin' for Jeremih and Chance with a brand-new, free mixtape Merry Christmas, Lil Mama. There's plenty of great moments like "I'm Your Santa," and Chance's take on "Carols of the Bells" in "Chi Town Christmas."

DeJ Loaf & Kodak Black - "All I Want For Christmas"
Seemingly setting of the trend was DeJ Loaf and Kodak Black's surprise collaboration "All I Want For Christmas." Having nothing to do with the Mariah Carey song and everything to do with holiday cheer, it's a new instant standard.

Nef The Pharaoh - "Mistletoe"
This year, make it a WorldStar Christmas with Nef the Pharoah's "Mistletoe." For those more explicit nights roasting on a open fire, it's great to see the Mistletoe tradition carried on in new and exciting ways!

Chaz Kangas & JHard - "12 Days"
I got into the holiday spirit myself, as per tradition, I've released my annual original Christmas song. This year's installment, "12 Days" is my take on "The 12 Days of Christmas" produced by JHard (9th House, Sarah White's "Ricochet") and, as it is every year, is a name-your-price benefit single where 100 percent of the money will be split between RAINN and WigsForKids.

Chance the Rapper, DMC and the cast of Saturday Night Live - "Jingle Barack"
Finally, for funny holiday tidings, we have Chance the Rapper's "Christmas in Hollis" parody "Jingle Barack." As great as it is to see DMC and Chance (as father and son) exchanging Christmas rhymes on television, Leslie Jones' rhymes for Joe Biden are a welcome late edition to our Best Verse of 2016 list.
