5-year-old boy drowns in Crystal Lake in Grand Rapids

A 5-year-old boy drowned Saturday afternoon after trying to climb on top of a swimming raft on a Grand Rapids lake, according to police.

WCCO reports authorities responded to a report of a possible drowning at Crystal Lake at 1:30 p.m. Upon arrival, first responders pulled the boy from the water.

First responders included the Grand Rapids Police Department, Itasca County Sheriff's Dept. and Med's 1 Ambulance Service, according to the Northland News Center.

He was transported to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital, where he later died, says the Duluth News Tribune. The boy's name was not immediately released.
