The puppy who was rescued from a burning dumpster in Redby last week is recovering from his wounds, but the story is far from over for the Humane Society of the United States.

The animal advocacy group is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the "identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons" responsible for burning Phoenix, as he was named following his rescue.

Last Friday, a truck driver found the 5-month-old husky mix in a burning dumpster on the Red Lake Reservation – he had suspicions that the fire was not accidental.

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue, an animal shelter, reported that he'd been on a "blanket that smelled like gasoline." He was covered in serious burn wounds and was also suffering from dehydration and malnutrition, a staff member at the shelter said.

The Humane Society reports he will need skin grafts over the next few months.

The organization says getting law enforcement and prosecutors involved in animal cruelty cases is "an essential step in protecting the community."
