6 Minn. CEOs chosen as entrepreneur of year


WCCO reports that six Minnesota CEOs have been named Ernst & Young Entrepreneurs of the Year 2013.

The award program, now in its 27th year, recognizes corporate execs who dazzle in areas including innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities, WCCO reports.

A Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Randall Hogan of Pentair for business and philanthropic leadership.

The entrepreneur-of-the-year winners were honored at a black-tie gala in Minneapolis on Thursday. They are:

– John Barrow, CEO of Coolibar, based in St. Louis Park

– Megan Tamte, CEO of Hot Mama, based in Edina

– Kenny Nelson, CEO of KLN Family Brands, based in Perham

– David Lenzmeier, CEO of Milk Specialties Global, based in Eden Prairie

– Brad Rixmann, CEO of Pawn America, based in Burnsville

– Craig Kruckeberg, CEO of Minimizer, based in Blooming Prairie

Hormel's Ettinger named 'Responsible CEO of the Year'

Jeffrey Ettinger was one of four chief executives honored by Corporate Responsibility magazine, Twin Cities Business reports. The “Responsible CEO of the Year” award recognizes executives who “visibly exceed standards in the areas of employee relations, environmental impact, human rights, philanthropy, and corporate responsibility practices.”

A new report from the Kauffman Index of Entrepreneurial Activity suggests on average, there are 320 entrepreneurs per 100,000 people around the country. In Minnesota, that number is only 230. Our neighboring states didn't fare much better.
