6 Minnesota snowmobilers rescued in Wyoming

Six men from Hastings, Minnesota, have been rescued in Wyoming after they spent the night stuck in the backcountry of Bridger-Teton National Forest, the Jackson Hole News & Guide reports.

After an 18-hour multiagency search, a snowmobile guide on Wednesday afternoon found the men identified as Max Jacoby, Richie Jacoby, Kyle Ryman, Aaron Peine, Brent Zeien and Travis Krinkle. The men, said to be in their 20s and 30s, had gotten stranded in deep snow in a gully near Tripod Peak, the publication reported. None of the men suffered serious injury.

The six were experienced snowmobilers who had rented their machines, but they got stuck in the snow and then "hunkered down" for a long night, one official said. The men were able to make a fire to keep warm, the News & Guide reports. They had cellphones but could not get service in their remote location.

It was another happy ending for stranded snowmobilers this season.

Last month, a young Canadian couple managed to survive life-threatening subzero wind chills overnight in the Northwoods after their snowmobile broke down. The two got lost and ended up across the border, eventually coming upon a house near Roosevelt, Minnesota. The man was treated for frostbite.

Also last month, a father and son from Albertville, Minnesota, who vanished in a blizzard during a snowmobile trip in Michigan, were rescued. A series of text messages led search and rescue teams to Benjamin Jenney Sr., 40, and his 19-year-old son, Benjamin Jenney Jr. The two survived without major injury after 28 harrowing hours in temperatures that dipped to near minus-20 degrees.
