7-year-old dies after being pulled from the Mississippi River

First responders were called after the boy was spotted in the water.

A 7-year-old boy died after being pulled from the river in St. Cloud Friday.

St. Cloud police and fire department members were called to Munsinger Gardens in Riverside Park around noon, for a report of a child in the water.

The boy was located by 12:11 p.m., found near the shoreline of the Mississippi River, in the water.

He was transported to the hospital, but was pronounced dead at at 12:28 p.m. 

He's been identified as Fuad Abdirisak Rahey of St. Cloud, according to an email news release from St. Cloud police. 

It hasn't been said what led up to the boy ending up in the water, but police do not suspect foul play. A medical examiner will determine the official cause of death.

There have been 15 non-boating drownings in Minnesota as of July 16, according to the DNR. At this same time last year there had been 23.
