A 71-year-old Milaca man died Saturday after he was found in a ditch in central Minnesota.
Milton Tinkham was driving in Dalbo Township when he ran a stop sign and drove his car into a swamp, according to the Isanti County Sheriff's Office.
He then got out of the car and walked through the water toward the road, where he collapsed, officials said.
Police received a call early Saturday morning about a man lying face down in a ditch. Responders administered life-saving measures to Tinkman and then lifted him by air ambulance from the scene. He died later that day.
Alcohol, inattentive driving and hypothermia are believed to be contributing factors to his death, officials said.
Tinkham’s wife Linda died two months ago at age 65. The couple was married for 28 years and had eight children, according to her obituary.
Inattentive or distracted driving plays a role in one in four crashes in Minnesota, and on Monday law enforcement officials kicked off a week-long crackdown to put an end to distracted driving.
