89-year-old killed in mini-bus crash on I-394

A crash on westbound Interstate 394 involving a mini-bus during Wednesday's morning rush hour killed at least one person and injured another.

The Minnesota State Patrol says Charles Miranda, 89, of Minneapolis, was killed when the Chevy Express van he was riding in blew a tire, spun out and crashed Wednesday into the median on Interstate 394 in Golden Valley, KARE 11 reports. The 55-year-old driver was not injured, but another passenger, an 85-year-old woman from Minneapolis, suffered a minor injury. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. near Xenia and Park Place, KARE 11 says.

All three people had been wearing seat belts, the Pioneer Press says.

The mini-bus was sitting in the middle lane, facing the wrong direction, after the crash, the Star Tribune reports. The left lane and center-left lanes were closed, but the road reopened about 10:30 a.m. after snarling traffic, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
