An 89-year-old man from northern Minnesota who was reported missing has been found safe.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension tweeted Friday afternoon that Richard Giles was "found safe" in Prescott, Wisconsin.
Authorities had asked for the public's help in finding him because they were concerned for his welfare.
Here's the original story from Friday morning.
An 89-year-old man from northern Minnesota is missing, and authorities – worried about his age and the cold weather – are asking people to be on the lookout.
Richard Griffith Giles was last seen in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, where he spent the night at a Super 8 after getting lost, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said. He's originally from Verndale, which is about 120 miles southwest of the Iron Range city.
Giles was driving a burgundy 2012 GMC Traverse (similar photo below), with Minnesota plates 276 GYZ. The Wadena County Sheriff's Office is asking everyone in the area to look on roadsides, in ditches and other areas for Giles and the vehicle.
The bureau put out an update Friday saying he appears to have purchased gas around 8:30 a.m., at Captain Dan’s Crow’s Nest Cenex in Mora. But they're still asking for help finding him.
Giles is 5-foot-9 with hazel eyes, gray balding hair, and a gray mustache and beard.
Anyone who thinks they see him or his car should call the Wadena County Sheriff's Office at 218-631-7600, or dial 911.
