A car crash and police chase ends with pedestrian fatality and arrest

A suspect has been arrested and is recovering in the hospital after a crash that killed a pedestrian.

According to the Minneapolis Police Department, officers saw a vehicle driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed before 10 p.m. Friday night.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled and hit a 16-year-old female pedestrian.

Allegedly, the suspect continued driving before jumping out of the moving vehicle, which crashed into multiple parked vehicles. He fled on foot.

Officials say that officers arrested the suspect a block away as he allegedly attempted to carjack a vehicle that was occupied by a family.

Officers discovered the suspect had two felony warrants for his arrest and also found a handgun in the suspect's vehicle.

The pedestrian victim was transported to North Memorial Hospital where she later died of her injuries. Her identity has not been released yet.

The suspect was also brought to North Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained from the crash. He will be booked into the Hennepin County Jail after being released from the hospital.
