A chilly start to begin the weekend

Mother Nature is celebrating the opening weekend of Valleyfair with a roller coaster of her own. From 90s last week comes a blast of cool weather and freeze warnings.

A front advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. this morning and from midnight to 8 a.m. Sunday morning for most of the state.

The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that there will be several hours in a row early this morning and again on Sunday morning with readings near freezing.

Highs will be in the 40s and in some places the low 50s throughout the state, but windchills could be in the mid-20s, especially in northern Minnesota.

There is a slight chance for rain in southern and southeastern Minnesota, but for the most part the weekend will be characterized by the unseasonably cold weather.

But don't worry – the NWS says that spring will return this week.
