Members of the Fulton community shocked by Justine Damond's death will gather to "March for Healing and Justice" Thursday evening.

The event has been organized with help from Women's March Minnesota, and in coordination with the 40-year-old Australian native's family. The event comes five days after Damond was shot dead by a Minneapolis police officer shortly after she called in a possible sexual assault near her home.

According to the Facebook event page, marchers will meet at W. 51st Street and Washburn Avenue at 7 p.m. before walking to Beard's Plaisance park on Upton Avenue S.

As of 1 p.m. more than 120 people had confirmed their attendance, with hundreds more considering joining the vigil.

"We will dedicate the walk to healing and lifting up those whom we mourn followed by a peaceful gathering at the park," the event page says.

People are encouraged to bring battery-operated candles to honor her, because Damond was described as light to the world.

A march for all lives lost

Previously the event was called "Peace and Justice Walk for Justine," but Women's March Minnesota says that's been changed to "March for Healing and Justice for Justine + ALL killed by police" because "lives lost to police violence deserve a MARCH."

The group goes on to explain that this gathering is about more than the shooting of Damond. It's about everyone who's been killed by police.

"Please join us to grieve in all the ways we each need to, to heal by being in community and to march for the same kind of demands of police, the BCA and our public officials that communities of color have been voicing for too many years," Women's March Minnesota says.
