A play born in Minneapolis is up for a prestigious London theater award

A play that made its debut at the Guthrie Theater has been nominated for a prestigious London theater award.

Nice Fish is up for best new comedy at the Olivier Awards, which will be held April 9 at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

The is a play centered on two friends who are ice fishing in Minnesota, with the New York Times calling it not so much a traditional play, but one that features monologues and vignettes.

It's all based on the poetry of Duluth's Louis Jenkins, who created the play with Tony and Academy Award-winning actor Mark Rylance, according to the Guthrie Theater. It also stars Twin Cities actor Jim Lichtscheidl, with music by Claire van Kampen.

The play made its world premiere at the Guthrie in 2013, before moving on to successful stints in Boston, New York and most recently, London.
