Following Saints' minicamp Tuesday, former Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was asked about his questionable pass-catching abilities, given the pass-happy nature of the Drew Brees-led New Orleans offense.

Peterson has been in the NFL since 2007 and has yet to break 500 receiving yards in a season.

"It's always funny to me because I've been playing this game since I was 7, and a lot of people, they say, 'He can't catch the ball.' I can catch a football," Peterson said Tuesday.

His best year catching the ball came when Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre was under center for the Vikings in 2009. That year, Peterson managed 43 catches for 436 yards. In 2010, he caught 36 passes for 341 yards.

For comparison in 2016, elite pass-catching running back David Johnson led NFL runners with 80 receptions for 879 yards. Nine different running backs accumulated 400 yards or more through the air. Peterson has eclipsed that number just twice in his career.

Despite not having the career numbers a pass-catching running back should have, Peterson has all the confidence he can play that role if need be.

"It's all about having a guy that's going to get the ball to you," Peterson said. "I'd be lying to say it's not nerve-wracking to hear people say, 'He can't catch the ball.' What is he going to do in this offense, because they pass so much?"

Only time will tell if the 32 year old can revamp the receiving element of his game at this stage of his career. Peterson sure seems to think he will have no problem catching on.
