A 70-year-old woman was found dead in a pool northeast of the Twin Cities metro.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office said on Facebook it received a report around 5:35 p.m. Thursday about an individual discovered in a pool in the city of Grant.
First responders attempted to revive the woman, but efforts were unsuccessful.
The incident is under investigation by the sheriffs office, as well as the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.
No other details, including the victim's name or cause of death, have been released. The sheriff's office says there is "no concern" for public safety.
Drowning is the third leading cause of death from unintentional injury worldwide, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention says. Nearly 4,000 people in the U.S. die from drowning each year, which averages to about 10 people a day, according to CDC statistics.
There were 29 drowning deaths in Minnesota in 2014, according to Abbey’s Hope, a charitable foundation that promotes pool safety.
