Gustavus Adolphus College President Jack Ohle announced he's retiring next summer at the end of his six-year contract.

The Mankato Free Press reports the announcement comes after numerous faculty, students and alumni questioned Ohle's leadership and called for his resignation.

KEYC says there were major concerns over Ohle's hiring decisions, in which other faculty members weren't consulted.

A website created by students called GustieLeaks escalated the turmoil by publicizing documents, some confidential, related to Ohle and the college's administration, the Free Press said.

Ohle told the newspaper that the tension on campus has been difficult, but he isn't taking it personally.

"Certainly those concerns and issues that have been expressed all are important to listen to and to understand," Ohle said. "But it's also important to look at the future and build in ways in which we can engage all of our constituents.”

The St. Peter Herald has a list of Ohle's accomplishments during his tenure.

Details on the Board of Trustees' search for Ohle's replacement will be announced soon.
