A spate of spring storms splattered across the southern and central Minnesota Thursday, bringing hail, heavy rains and high winds – and several reports of funnel clouds.

The tornadoes spotted in southwest Minnesota did little damage and no one was injured, according to reports.

During the afternoon, there were reports of nickel-sized hail, isolated street flooding, uprooted trees, snapped power lines, and weather damage to vehicles, mostly in south and central Minnesota. The Medtronic TC 1 Mile race in downtown Minneapolis was canceled.

A few other highlights: A thunderstorm blasted the Waseca area with winds up to 80 mph, knocking down large trees and blowing out the windows of a few cars, the Star Tribune reported. KARE 11 has a photo of a house after its roof was ripped off in Red Wing, as well as other shots of other storm damage from Thursday.

The forecast for the weekend looks far more calm, but still a bit wet.

Generally, statewide, fishing opener Saturday will start out cool and dry, with some scattered showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms later in the day, forecasters say. Highs in the 60s.

Mother's Day Sunday likely will feature highs in the 60s to around 70, with another chance of showers and thunderstorms mostly in southern Minnesota.

In the metro, expect some unsettled weather patterns, with the most widespread rain Sunday through Monday, the National Weather Service says.
