An afternoon downpour that dumped up to 2 inches of rain in the St. Cloud area has left numerous roads flooded and the local police department urging caution in travel.

KSTP reported that radar indicated that the heavy accumulation happened in less than an hour on Monday in the central Minnesota city.

The St. Cloud Times reports that St. Cloud police confirmed that several busy intersections in the city were experiencing high water that left some cars stuck or stranded in the flooded areas.

The Star Tribune's forecast for Monday evening indicated that most holiday travelers should have an uneventful drive home, but that moderate to heavy showers and possible thunderstorms are pushing into the Twin Cities area around the dinner hour. The newspaper's forecast warns that while the risk of severe weather is small, some of the storms may pack downpours capable of additional street flooding.
