Ag committees agree to renew farm bill for another year

Author:

Minnesota's Collin Peterson and other leaders of the U.S. House and Senate Agriculture Committees have reportedly agreed to extend the farm bill for another year.

The Associated Press reports committee leaders agreed to renew the terms of the five-year package that expired in the fall. Without an agreement, wholesale milk prices are set to double on the first of the year.

Peterson is the Democratic leader on the House Ag Committee.

An agreement by the committees, though, still does not guarantee farm policy will be extended. CNN reports House leadership had still not agreed to bring the measure to the floor as of Sunday afternoon.

Other measures alive in the House would extend the old farm bill for just one month, or would extend only the dairy program.
