An air-pollution health alert has been issued for the southern two-thirds Minnesota, the Associated Press reports. The alert runs through noon Sunday.

Monitoring stations in Detroit Lakes, Brainerd, St. Cloud, Rochester, the Twin Cities and in other areas recorded increased levels of fine-particle pollution, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says.

Agency officials urge people who are sensitive to air pollution to take proper precautions, including staying indoors and avoiding strenuous work when outside. Those groups include people with cardiovascular health problems, children and the elderly, the agency said in a press release posted by Patch.

Air quality likely will improve when a cold front is expected to blow across Minnesota.
