Airbnb guest pleads guilty of trying to sexually assault host's 7-year-old daughter

The Michigan man had been drinking and claims he couldn't remember the event.

A man who rented a spare room at a Minnetonka home through Airbnb tried to sexually assault his host's 7-year-old daughter.

Derrick Kinchen, of Michigan, pleaded guilty in court on Monday to a crime he claims he can't remember after drinking heavily on the night in question.

He rented the room at a house on Bellevue Drive, Minnetonka via Airbnb on Sept. 24, when he was in town for a wedding.

After returning to the house around midnight, the girl's father found Kinchen naked lying on his daughter's bed next to her.

Kinchen fled when the father yelled at him, grabbing his suit coat and wallet on the way.

He later fell asleep in a neighbors boat and was bitten awake by a police dog.

Kinchen made a Norgaard plea in court, claiming he couldn't recall the events, but agreed that there's sufficient evidence to convict him, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.

"Kinchen told the court that all he remembers is that he drank a lot that night, went to the bathroom and then thought he was going back to his room," the attorney's office said. "He then remembered people were yelling at him and he ran."

He will be sentenced May 18, when he is expected to receive five years on probation with 18 months in prison should he violate the conditions of his probation.

He'll also served 120 days in the Hennepin County Workhouse, though he gets credit for 142 days of time served.
