Allina acquires one of metro area's last independent hospitals

Regina Medical Center in Hastings will soon be part of the Allina Health system.

The Business Journal reports that the Minneapolis-based health care giant will assume ownership Aug. 1. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Since 2007, Allina has had a 25 percent stake in Regina, which operates a 57-bed hospital and nursing home.

Regina is one of the last remaining independent hospitals in the metro area. It has more than 600 employees. A statement to employees said that Allina will invest in "enhancements" to Regina's campus and expand emergency and primary care services.

Regina also operates clinics in Hastings, Cottage Grove, and Prescott, Wis. In January, Regina's senior-living business is expected to be sold to Benedictine Health System in Duluth.
