An engagement ring lost, never forgotten

For years, Vivian Olson of Lanesboro, Minn., would check the nooks and crannies of her dresser whenever she cleaned it, hoping to find her diamond engagement ring. She’d taken it off while pregnant with her fourth child in 1971 and put it in the dresser, but she never saw it again, and the loss left her empty. Then 41 years later, the ring reappeared -- but not in her dresser.

Vivian Olson, of Lanesboro, Minn., and her family always figured her lost engagement ring must be near. “We always felt like, it’s close by, it’s going to turn up,” said one of her daughters, who was 8 in 1971 when the ring went missing. It finally did. The Rochester Post Bulletin has the amazing story.

That's not the only lost-ring story in the news. A number of national media, including National Public Radio, have picked up the story widely reported locally of the Minnesota woman who bought a cheap pair of pants at Goodwill and found a diamond ring inside. She's searching for the owner. Here's the New York Daily News version.
