Another 2 Gander Mountain stores in Minnesota to close, 3 more might follow

No decision has been made on stores in Eden Prairie, Rochester and Blaine.

Another two Gander Mountain stores in Minnesota are set to close, with the fate of three more still up in the air.

Marcus Lemonis, the Camping World CEO whose company bought the St. Paul-based retailer on May 1, provided a late night Twitter update Thursday showing a list of stores that "as of now" will be closing.

These include the stores in Bemidji and St. Cloud, but also the one in Rogers which Gander Mountain already revealed last month would be closing as it tried to stave off bankruptcy.

The tweet came just hours after Lemonis tweeted that he would be changing the name of the retailer to Gander Outdoors and confirmed that four Minnesota stores are definitely staying open – in Lakeville, Forest Lake, Baxter and Hermantown (Duluth).

That means that no decision has yet been made on the Gander Mountains in Eden Prairie, Rochester and Blaine, with Lemonis saying: "If a store is missing from both lists, it means it's still in discussion."

Camping World is trying to renegotiate the terms of rental agreements with the landlords of the remaining stores, and should keep them open if they agree favorable terms.

It will nonetheless mean dozens of jobs lost in Minnesota, with Gander stores generally employing 20-30 full-time workers and 20-30 on a part-time to seasonal basis.

For those stores that are closing, the CEO is suggesting workers try to secure a new position by applying through the Camping World website, or by transferring to another store.

Lemonis is trying to re-align the Gander Mountain business model that led to it filing for bankruptcy last month, promising "more categories, better pricing, fresh start."

The Camping World and host of CNBC reality show The Profit has conducted his company's takeover of the outdoors retailer in an unusually public manner, giving regular updates to concerned workers and customers about their local stores' fates.
