Another new business formalizes plans to locate in Shakopee

The city of Shakopee Tuesday formally announced that a campus for a new data center will locate in the Scott County community.

The Shakopee Valley News reported that Dallas-based Compass Datacenter will develop the $26 million facility for Savvis, a CenturyLink company. The Savvis data center plans to open in the spring of 2014. The Star Tribune reports that CenturyLink is expected to create about 18 jobs at the new data center.

In a statement, Shakopee Mayor Brad Tabke said, "Savvis’ data center brings new, highly technical and well-paying jobs to the area."

Compass has a master plan for the Shakopee campus that includes the potential construction of three additional 25,000-square-foot data centers representing an investment of about $90 million. Talks continue between the city and Compass Datacenters about incentives.

Earlier this year, Shutterfly broke ground on a new $60 million facility in Shakopee after the city and state courted it aggressively. An anticipated 329 full time and some 600 part-time jobs will be created at the new operation when it opens next summer.
